Assuming that DEMO SA retail company wishes to post new Items in SOFT1 ERP.  However, to save time and make the process easier whenever an Item is posted, the next available code shall be suggested/ generated in ascending order (e. g.  000001 followed by 000002).  To succeed this, auto-numbering (process) shall be activated.   

**Configuration**  
To start the auto-numbering process without having a specific code format, proceed as follows:  

- leave the Code **Format **field blank, as displayed in the following screen,
- click on the hyperlink:
  - fill in the **From**, **To** fields (by setting the range),
  - fill in the **Formula** field (apply drag & drop or double-click on Code field) and
  - **activate **the **Auto-Numbering **parameter**.**

Finally, click <**Accept**> and then <**Save**>.

> ℹ️ To activate the general parameters features, you should re-open the respective Entity (Stock Items, Trading Parties etc).

Once the configuration is completed, post the first Item by replacing the displayed asterisk with the code that indicates the beginning of the auto-numbering. From now on, the next available code shall be suggested/ generated.
